Adult Acne: Coping with Adult Acne
Though no one knows the real cause of adult acne,
it’s believed that hormones, stress and diet are the
main contributors to adult acne.
Hormones promote oil production which can
clog pores and cause adult acne. This can, however, continue
to happen even after a person moves from adolescence into
adulthood...

Stress factors associated with adult life, such as
problems at work, the added responsibility of taking care of a family,
rigorous daily routine can add acne prone faces. Everyone that has
children knows exactly how stressful life can become. I, myself,
had clear skin until I had my first child.
Seeing so many different contributors of adult acne,
the cause and type must be determined before the correct acne treatment
can be found. By finding and treating adult acne and its symptoms,
it will be more easily managed through proper acne control. Positive
skin care can lessen the need for harsh, aggressive, and sometimes
even dangerous treatment…
Like in teen acne, psychological and social affects
of acne go along with the physical aspects. Lowered self esteem
can lead adult acne sufferers to avoid social situations, leading
to a lower quality of life.
Until recently, it was believed that adult acne was
relatively uncommon. This was due to the lack of reported cases
of adult acne, along with the fewer number of doctors visits from
adult acne sufferers. Many adults were ashamed they had a condition
associated with adolescence, therefore afraid of what others might
think if they knew.
As more information about adult acne became available,
more people spoke out about their experiences. This helped them
realize that they were not alone in their struggle with adult acne.
Many women, especially, suffer from acne for much the same reason
as teens, hormones produce oil which, then clogs pores and causes
breakouts.
There are numerous acne treatments available, some
over-the-counter, and others, prescription.
Another aspect of adult acne such as scarring acne
can leave even larger psychological impact on an adult acne sufferer.
Aging skin is thinner, and is not able to heal like that of an adolescent.
While this isn’t as much a concern for young adults as it
is older acne sufferers, prolonged adult acne could mean deeper
scars that are more noticeable.
No matter the cause and type of adult acne, treatment
of the acne is the first step to feeling better about the condition
and how it may affect you. When you are treating adult acne, you
are taking action, and though the results may not be noticeable
for some time, this will certainly help build your esteem and create
a more positive attitude, necessary to cure adult acne in the long
run.
